The goal of our Senior Adult Ministry is to insure that every Senior Adult has a place of ministry and service as long as they live. No matter what limitations: physically, financially, or emotionally, we believe our Senior Adults can and should participate in activities that are designed for service for the Lord. The goals for Senior Adult Ministry at University Baptist Church are: to show love and concern to our Senior Adults, to give them an opportunity to use their God-given abilities in service, to provide opportunities for Christian fellowship, and to provide opportunities for a deeper understanding and the assurance of God’s continuing love and care. We believe that there is a purpose in all of life. It is our belief that the Bible does not teach that a person should retire from life. Although many Senior Adults do retire from public work, we believe that God expects us to continue to serve Him with the spiritual gifts and talents He has given us.
Our Senior Adult Group is called LiveWire. We get together for
such as speaker programs, covered dish lunches, and trips.
These activities are designed to allow our senior adults to
participate and to invite friends and relatives to join them in fun
events that they can enjoy. Activities revolve around a
monthly meeting held at 10:30 A.M. on the fourth Thursday of each
month. At each meeting, we have a devotion and prayer time when we
can share needs and concerns with each other.
Our senior adult choir is called Jubilee Singers. We meet the
first and third Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. This is a special time for
worship and fellowship as we practice music especially arranged for
senior adults. We meet from August through May. We sing
during Worship Services; also, the first Sunday in May is Senior
Adult Day in our church and our entire service is devoted to
honoring our senior adults. We also go to nursing homes and
sing for them at Christmas and at other times when the opportunity
We have Bible study classes to meet the needs of Senior Adults. We have men’s classes, women’s classes and coed classes. We meet Sunday mornings at 10:15 for a time of fellowship and prayer then study God’s Word together.
Our senior adults do many things to reach out to each other and to others in our community. They visit in homes, hospitals, and nursing homes. They write cards and notes to shut-ins and people who are not able to attend church regularly. They are a vital part of our prayer chain that shares prayer needs in times of crisis. When someone is hurting, our senior adults are lifting them up to the Lord in prayer.
If you are looking for a place to be challenged to use your spiritual gifts, talents, and abilities for the purposes and glory of God in and through His church, join us at University Baptist Church.
